On Sunday, July 10, a friend of mine Lyndon Ellefson died in a hiking
accident as a result of a fall into a crevasse on Plateau Rosa in the Swiss
Alps near the Italian border.
Lyndon was an accomplished runner who lived in Vail, Colorado. He was a
dedicated promoter of athletics serving as Chairman of the USATF men's LDR
subcommittee for mountain running. He was also the US delegate to the
International Committee for Mountain Running where I met him every year,
and was also a board member of the Federation for Sport at Altitude.
He ran many times for the USA in the World Mountain Running Championships
and was the team leader of the US team there on many occasions. His
frequent contributions - occasionally controversial - at ICMR meetings
livened up some often tedious afternoons.
Lyndon was the type of person who attracted fond feelings and was an
instant friend to all he touched. His smile was infectious, his laugh
contagious. He will be greatly missed.
A fund has been set up at 1st Bank, 17 Vail Road, Vail, Colorado 81657, for
Lyndon's wife Tashina and their two boys, Sylvan aged 11 and Kjell aged 7.
